Subtle Clicking...
Ok, I know Ive had my '00 A8 for a grand total of 3 days, so I'm hyper sensitive:
There is a slight clicking going on seemingly behind the radio or the center air vents. It is not loud, and I may hear 5 or 6 clicks separated by 10 - 15 minutes of silence, or more. It seems related to the A/C but I am not sure. It seems like a plastic-on-plastic sound if that means anything.
Anything?

It's the ventilation flaps doing that....
...You'd have to troubleshoot it with the ross-tech software....has been somewhat of a common problem with the 00's it seems.

What will the software tell me (I just ordered it when I bought the car)

The ross-tech software will troubleshoot it
You can find it at ross-tech.com, you need it along with the Bently manual which you can get from them too.
There is also a technical bullitien on this I believe, I'll see if I can find it.

Here's my .02 on the noise....
I had a problem with my A/C not blowing out of the center vents. Hooked up Ross-tech and came back with the code to replace the "recirc motor"
(Paul did the translation for me). Replaced it and seemed to work ok but I was getting add'l error codes. Cleared those and will check again tomorrow. Everything seems to work just fine but the reason for my rambling post is.. if I turn the key forward there is a steady clicking sound coming from this motor. I'm not convinced it's not normal though and I don't think it does it when the car is running. Let me pull the codes and see. BTW, mine is a 2000 as well.
