Sweet, so mall security had to jump my car and ....

Hooked up the battery to the power pack the wrong way, after I told him that the negative was closest to the back of the car. This was after I signed the waiver that basically said that he was free to short out my abs unit (abs and brake light flashing) and blew the fuse on my satellite radio... Sweet.. Now all my Audi's need ABS Modules. What a rip, Audi should recall the abs modules. Should I even try to go after the mall on this one???? Who knows what else is fvcked.

aw, man that sucks.

I dunno. You did sign the waiver. On the other hand, do you have witnesses that can testify that you instructed him where pos & neg is?

Re: aw, man that sucks.

yes, my girlfriend was standing right there. I told him the neg was closest to the back of the car and where I think he went wrong was when he put the pos on the starter pack to the brown / red looking ground wire because the positive is just a straight black cable...

I've never noticed before; you mean that ...

On an Audi, the black battery cable is positive, and the red cable is negative!!! I believe that's backwards from about every other car on the planet, is it really correct?

If I ever had to jump start my own car, unless I noticed the + or - stamped into the top of the battery terminal, I also would have hooked up the cables incorrectly.

well I guess brown is as close to red as anything...

by the way, the positive terminal is larger in diameter then the negative terminal

It's those crazy Germans playing tricks on us again . . .

actually I believe it's the European wiring color scheme.

Here's what mine looks like. There is a red (brown?) colored cable going to the negative pole.

Brown is the earth on Audi as the small wire on battery cover

ryoung 03-29-2006 11:52 AM

The color code is the opposite of my Saab and Range Rover, but ...

Sweden and the UK aren't mainland Europe ;-)

First thing I did after I bought a new battery was

mark + and - with a big permanent marker on the top of the battery.

Second thing I did was wrap the + cable with red electrical tape, and the - with black.

It's not worth the risk of somebody else (AAA, eg) screwing it up.
