Symphony Swap Out-- No Code
Not sure if anyone cares about the Symphony-I anymore, but I recently started to add AUX/BT/MP3 support into the CDC port on my Audi A8/S8s.
In working on my S8, I also wanted to install a newer Symphony-1, preferably with no lock code, since I'd long since lost the code for the one installed.
I wasn't sure if this would work, but I did buy a Symphony 1 from an Audi A4 off Fleabay, a 1999 model year unit that was unlocked. It's only a five minute job to swap over
the front bezel/button assembly and the correct A8/S8 rear metal housing. Jammed it back into the S8 dash and it works great.
I'm happy to post pics if anyone cares, but for future Audi Archaelogists, the A4 Symphony from the same era works fine if you swap front and back assemblies.
I don't really care about effectively having "no code". Anybody that's breaking into a $$1500 car for a $40 radio has bigger problems.

Cool. Thanks for the link-- I didn't go look in the archives; had just taken a flyer on a cheap A4 unit and was surprised how easy it was to convert over. They aren't bad radios, just lack the modern goodies. At least one of the cars I'm hoping to put a modern Android head unit into, with updated Google Maps and Android Phone support... but am just going back through and re-learning the signal pin-outs. Thanks again! BTW, we used to interact years ago on QW-- is it Sam? I apologize, it's been a long time. I changed jobs, lost my email and login over there and haven't looked in for years.

Remember to re-do the hidden EQ settings, they were way off when I put an A6 unit into my A8.
