Default Temperature Sensor /Switch for Auxilary El. Fan

Hi, everyone
I have 1997 A8, D2 3.7 FWD with AEW engine. My fan does not come on even after I replaced the resistor panel in the left fender. Generally, the temperature is holding fine (little below 90*C). The fan does not even come on when the air conditioner is fully on (no freon though). I had it on a manual switch for some time. Now I replaced the resistor panel and doubt about correct wiring or faulty temperature switch. So, I would need your advice on the following:
1. Where is the temperature switch for auxiliary fan located? I checked under the intake but it is not there. Maybe it is faulty
2. The auxiliary fan works fine on shorting, full speed. However, when replaced the resistor panel I need to check it with the panel in work. How?
3. What would be the correct wiring with the resistor panel? I found write up on it and it seems it is like in the diagram I came up with:

So, the fan has red/black and brown wires coming from it. Others I have to locate tracing the panel wiring. Please let me know if this is all correct and if you can provide detailed info on DIY on the full procedure, would be very grateful. Thanks

If there is no Freon, I'm certain the compressor clutch won't engage, so I doubt whether it will try to kick the fan on in that set of conditions.

Thanks for your reply. However, I just wanted to know if I am correct: the red/black wire directly goes to E3 as in diagram, but where do other 2 wires go just to trace them if there is any wire failure or anything.
Thanks

Don't recognize the wiring diagram format. Bentley is always going to be the final say on wiring.
