Thanks - Problem with Audi Dealers
I recently posted regarding a problem with my A8Q transmission being in Limp Mode until it was driven about 1.5 miles.
The advice I got on this site was excellent and saved me at least $6,000.
The dealer said the codes indicated the torque converter had failed, a temperature sensor in the wiring harness had failed and my only option was to replace the transmission for about $7,000.
I ignored the Dealers advice and went to a transmission shop where in 10 minutes they ran the codes and said the only problem was solenoid in the transmission. They spent a couple hours confirming which solenoid had failed, ordered and relpaced the part for about $800 total cost. The car now runs great. I will have a very hard time trusting the local Audi dealer in the future.

You don't happen to live in VA, do you?
But owning a semi-exotic like an A8 or S8 is sort of like pasting the crosshairs on your forehead to a lot of service writers.
In this case the things they told you were painfully, obviously fraudulent. Its as if they told you your squamish needs regurgitating. I wonder how far up the company this behavior goes? It could be from the top down, however.

Now you know why most of the regulars here invested in VAG-COM and the Bentley CD long ago.
What sort of a transmission shop? I am amazed you found one able to successfully work on the innards of a ZF transmission.

Good for you
Never heard of a temperature sensor failing....but anything is possible.
It's hard to find anybody out there that can properly troubleshoot something.

Quality Transmission in Anchorage Alaska. I love these guys and they seem to understand this Audi transmission infinitely better than the Audi dealership. At least they can read the codes correctly !!
