Are your TPMS batteries still alive?

Default TPMS batteries

Yes,
i just mounted up some new rims and tires and moved the TPMS' over to the new wheels. Still working fine, 79K miles

Do you get a message when the batteries go out?

No! @#^(@#(@#&^@!!!

Mine's a 2004 Phaeton, it uses the same stupid TPMS sensors. On the Phaeton it's an easy "fix" to disable the the system to remove the dashboard warning, if you have or have access to a cable and software. Mine started being intermittent over a year ago, which seems ridiculous, it means you probably need new sensors with every second or third set of tyres.

Btw, there's no "d" in refrigerator, even in a German car! ;-)

Default TPMS sensors

After just getting new tires mounted and road force balance, my sensors worked for all of two weeks and now I am getting the display indicating 1 (or all?) are not working. Is there a way to replace the batteries?

Really really bad timing.

My 02 has 150K miles and the TPMS sensors are gone and the system is off. I'm glad.

I've just bought OEM sensors for $68 each from Belle Tire via Ebay. It's still $250 for what appears to me to be an almost useless system, but it's better than ~$150 each for the VW/Audi part. I haven't fitted them yet, but they're Beru and are dated 02/09.

I never understood the need for these things. I check the tires visually every time I approach the car. I keep a pressure gauge in every car.

Only thing the overpriced and uderdurable sensor system tells you is if you've stuck a nail in your tire while driving. Road feel should tell you the same thing, I'd think.

I'm not sure how quickly or noticeable it would be with run-flat tires. I beleive that is the main reason for such a system in most cases.
