Default Timing Belt Job....

Well, I am about to pull the trigger on doing my timing belt. I can get all of the original dealer parts needed including the coolant for about $960 from my local dealer and I can see at several online discounters such as BLAUfergnugen or Autohaus Arizona the "kit" will run me in the neighborhood of about $500 plus shipping. Some kits in this price range do not include all of the components either. Here is what I am looking at:

077109119E - Timing Belt
077109246B - Timing Belt Damper
N 905 428 01 - Harmonic Balancer Bolt
077109244A - Idler Pulley
077109243A - Tnesioner Pulley
077903137Q - Serpentine Belt
078121113F - Thermostat
077121004H - Water Pump and Gasket
077103487A - Camshaft Cover Oil Seal
G-012-A8F-A4 (Red) - Engine Coolant

My question is this, would you trust a "kit” with OEM parts and if so, who can recently purchased a timing belt kit and from where? Were you happy with it? Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

PAUL W, is your kit on hand available for rental or is it rented out at the moment?

Thanks all!

Default Did you price out the parts separately online?

I hate buying anything from the dealer. My parts from when I got my TB changed, tranny flushed, oil/filter changed, oil coolers changed and 8 new coil packs was $1750. The independant mechanic charged me for all the parts. Including $96 for a $45 timing belt and $46 for a $7 breather hose.

$960 seems kinda high. I would buy as much as possible over the internet. I believe Paul is on vacation until Sunday.

Good luck.

Default I paid around US$600 in parts for the TB job on my car. Parts came from Wendy->but she's out...

...of business it seems. This was 2 years ago. Got all parts from internet vendors except for the coolant.

Default blauparts also rents tools

I bought some parts from one online vendor, then discovered that I needed more parts, and ordered them all piecemeal, then finally discovered the blauparts kit. I definitely would have purchased the kit from blauparts had I known about it first -- saves a lot of trouble.

They will rent you the timing belt tools if you purchase a kit from them, and I think the rental fee is $38.

You cannot beat the deal from blauparts.com. The prices today are 479 to 559 depending on what year A8 you have. I bought parts from Autohaus and several others including the dealer. Rented the tools from Paul.

Keven are these aftermarket parts, OEM or what? Is the belt a Conti? What brand is the water pump? Just curious....
