My friend bought it for his 540i 6spd and decided for a larger one...so i got that one really cheap. It is the exact size of the MAFS. As PaulW has said with his, it is mounted in the stock airbox with out those cross braces. You would need to fabricate a bent adapter to go from the airbox hole to mount the MAFS if you would like the cold charge approach. I just removed the MAFS and attached it directly to the rubber elbow. The rubber elbow end is about .125" too large of an opening so I choked up the MAFS onto the elbow and cranked the band clamp tight. Keep in mind the airflow direction on the MAFS on the install. Hope this helps out. I think the filter is like 50 bucks retail.
