Default Tranny code - 00011

Normal disclaimers apply, use at your own risk, I have no idea if there is potential damage caused by this.

But -

My '98 A8 accepts tranny code 00011, and it is ***** wacky fun !!!! Holds 1st gear !

If I understand correctly, this is the non-USA code 00001 combined with the sport code 00010. Now that I've confirmed it works, this all makes sense to me - 00002 is probably a result of gas mileage requirements.

Also, it will downshift into 1st between 25-30 mph, if you want to take the risk of that on drive pavement or use that to kick the back-end around on snow and ice.

So, my laptop with Vag-Com installed will now be a permanent resident in my A8 so that I can swap tranny codes for myself everytime I take over driving from my wife.

I found that with my '98 in drive and not using Tip that I still get some very noticeable improvements. It will also kick-down all the way into 1st from ~20 mph roll, which it didn't use to do.

I did find that it will hold 2nd or 3rd gear in part-throttle situation after a kick down event that goes all the way to 1st.

Scenario is kick-down to 1st from 4th while in drive, back-off throttle, hold throttle fixed, and then it will stick in one of the gears. I don't know if this is what the tranny is supposed to do or a glitch. It wasn't a problem for me (I just naturally lifted off the throttle to coax it to shift), but other people testing it were shaken up by it.

Default Sounds like mine, would be interesting to check what code it has

Never changed the code myself, but car was over 2 years old when I got it. Here are some characteristics of my tiptronic:

- Holds 1st as long as I want in manual mode, to redline in auto
- Can always downshift to 1st, as long as it doesn't mean hitting rev limiter
- Hits rev limiter instead of upshifting in manual mode
- Fast shifts when in sport mode, a sec or less
- Adaptive shift pattern works very well, shifts to more sporty mode after a short while of inspired driving and vice versa
- No kickdown in manual mode
- Puts downshifts on hold in manual mode to wait for proper speeed
- Downshifts to hold speed downhill when using cruise control

Oh, and if it works, figure your gas mileage will be cut in half :-)

Default Think that is a feature of the sports program

Mine is the same, it will hold gears a lot longer in sport mode, even after going off to less throttle. You have to fully release the accelerator or stay at same throttle for quite a while to make it upshift.

Makes perfectly sense for inspired driving, like full acceleration out of corner, and then going off a bit before the next corner. Wouldn't want it to upshift then....

I do belive this only happens in the most sporty mode, when driving that inspired I use the manual anyway.

Default Intresting, here is the code table

When I first got my VAG Com, I recoded to 00001 from 00002 not knowing anything about this. Got it from the vag-com yahoo group after asking a question. I figured the "rest of the world" setting would be better.

Then I was reporting that my tranny coding was 00001 when I played with it and changed it to 00012 because I found the following chart on all-data.com. People were asking why it was 00001, there's was 00002, I had never changed it back.

Since then we've all changed to 00012. 00011 is for the rest of the world.

Be interesting to see what a non tip 97 will do.

Nice find!

Default Just recoded my 97 to 00011, didn't make much of a difference

Even with the shifter down in second, it still shifts out of first into second when only using slight throttle.

Just drove over to the post office, maybe they'll be better things when on the highway.

Default Yes, that sounds like what mine is doing now ...

The new code has turned a car that was fun to drive and moderately quick into a car that is now extremely fun to drive and is shockingly quick.

The overall driving sensation has been changed completely, much better now :-).
