Transmission Hell! TozoA8 who is your trans guy?
#11
I would sign on...
My rebuilt tranny goes back in my car tomorrow. I will keep you all posted as to my experience after rebuilding the clutch packs and having the TC rebuilt as to whether or not my hunting problem is gone, some say it will be, some say it won't be.

Since your TCU hasn't seen your valve body for a few days, it will apply full pressure.....
during the adaptation period. ( A few days ) Unfortunately the hunting will come back. My tranny doesn't hunt, but I still want to find out what causes the hunting. Maybe next month I will have a little more time to play with it.

Re: Eurotrans rebuilt transmission update
My transmission has about 5000 miles on it since the rebuild. So far, so good. No hunting, no slipping, no limp home mode. Shifts like it should. Once in a while it's a little slow to downshift, but that's in my neighborhood and I'm only going 30 mph. I have noticed a little whine in 1st gear up around 4500-5000 rpm. I'm taking it in to Hubert for a check-up and will see what he has to say.
The odometer is at 123,500 and I love this car more than ever. Thanks to all of you for sharing your vast knowledge!

Yes but ...
Knock on wood, but the '00 and later tranny's have generally been trouble-free in both the A8 and S8. Still, I'm changing ATF and filter in my '01 S8 at 30k mile intervals.

Re: GO FOR IT!!!! PLEASE here is another failed tranny
I also have a "hunter", a '98 with only 53k miles. This is clearly a very common defect. I'm no fan of class actions; neither am I a fan of luxury cars with defective transmissions. Audi should admit the problem and fix the cars.
