Vavona wood saga
Every piece of new Vavona is in except for the *&^%^& radio surround. It all looks mighty nice! Oh, the lower AC vent has a stealer list of $215 US! I may just use kleenex to regulate my air! I got 2 L shaped pieces of metal (sears cotter key pullers) behind the bezel down low and almost pulled my arms off and nothing budged. I tried to remove the radio, but only had 2 of the removal tools and it appears I need 4! Short of using the jaws of life on it I will now wait until I've had a few more beers and then the damage will not seem so bad when I go after it again! What is holding that thing?

Hopefully this helps you out...
The part number I came up with is 4D0820902J5PR on the parts list on Audipages.com. This is the lower drivers side AC vent and doing a price check on GenuineAudiParts.com comes up with a paltry $129.04. If this part number is incorrect, just enter the correct one if you have it, or look at the parts list and see if you can come up with it. The Genuine Audi Parts website is just that. Dealer parts at a lower cost.
As for removing the radio, if you search around the forum, some folks have made their own removal tools using the metal strips from hanging file folders and a Dremel. MacGuyver!

you can pop the radio with two tools by popping one side and then the other...
You pop one side (L or R) and pull it out 1mm and then pop the other side, that's actually the way I do it even thought I have four tools. I do it that way because I put one hand into the cassette opening to pull on the head unit, and use the other to apply pressure to the tools.

Are you trying to remove the radio JUST to change the wood trim?
Having done this before, I can't see any advantage to having the radio out to change the wood. Maybe my memory is bad though.
I know it scarey (trust me, I KNOW) to just keep pulling on that center piece of wood, but it WILL "pop" off. I would only say that you need to make SURE you are pulling from the bottom as it is much stronger than the top.
