Video clip showing sound difference from H-pipe, to X-pipe to Balance pipe
Here's what I know... Not too much of a difference in loudness between the X-pipe and the balance pipe but to me it did make it sound more "euro" which is what I'm looking for. So I'm happy w/ it. From what I've read, if you do a short Balance pipe, you get more power high in the RPM band, if you can make it at least 10 inches long, you should get more power through all RPM's. I was able to fit a 12 in mine.
Here's what I don't know... If it makes any power or not. I haven't proved that on my car. I got w/ a local buddy with a VAG-CON "Ross" and he took a MAF max reading for me prior to this install and he and I have not gotten back together yet after this install to get the second reading.
My next step is I still have a little bit of that "glasspack pop" under heavy load that I'm not wild about and I think it's because the shop that deleted my OEM muffler replaced it w/ 2" pipe going into the 2.25 coming out of the resonator and prior to it, it's 2.5. So I'm bottlenecking the exhaust as it heads to the rear. This last shop that did the balance pipe for me wants to run my two 2.25 pipes coming out of the resonator into one 3 inch pipe and put a new muffler he's seen power increases and increased gas mileage out of every cars he's put it on. It's a "Aero Turbine Muffler" it supposedly is built to create a vacuum so it's actually pulling air out the back of the exhaust. It' might be a BS product, but I might try it.
Here is a link to that muffler and how it "might" work.
