Vorsprung durch Toyota: the Lexus RX hybrid has purely electric RWD
Choosing the AWD version of the RX 400h gets you a 67 hp rear electric motor. There is no front-to-rear drive shaft. Yes, I know some of you will want more than 67 hp to drive the back wheels, but it's a start.
Relevance to Audi? Imagine the low polar moment in yaw if the engine were behind the front transaxle. Not that Toyota did it that way. And keeping a longitudinal engine would preserve the long front axles (which reduce torque steer when the axles meet their wheels at unequal angles). So FWD Audis would also benefit.
Or maybe the new models' grill is thought to be an acceptable substitute for agility. There must be some reason for it.
