Warped rotors - stock
I'm interested in finding out how many owners are experiencing warpage and how many miles they get on a set of rotors before the onset of warpage. Also, if there seems to be a difference in front v. rear rotor warpage.
My wife's cars seems to go only 6 to 8 K before the rotors have to be replaced due to warpage. And she's not exactly pushing the car to it's limits.
Any information would be much appreciated.

did not hear that on an A8 before, but
that is already evident as a common problem with both the A6 4.2 and the A6 2.7T. Seems that Audi's high end brake issues cross model lines.

Interesting. For what it's worth, it appears that the A6 4.2 and 2.7t have larger disks than the A8. Also, the 6s have vented rear disks vs. solid disks on the 8.

There was a VERY thorough discussion regarding brake disc warpage. It seems that the early A8 (especially in North America) have smaller brake discs than Euro-spec cars and brake warpage is very common. Replacements may be needed as low as 5000 miles. I've also heard that the A8L (when it first became available in North America) do have larger brake discs installed and the A8's disc were also upgraded when the A8L came out. When our brake disc warped, it created a VERY strong vibration while braking. The service advisor told me that the reason the disc warped becasue the brake pads were worn and caused the disc to warp because it over-heated. The interesting thing is, the brake wear indication have no indication that the pads are worn, so I'm still somewhat skeptical to what the advisor told me. On the other hand, I'm glad that our A8L does have squealing brakes like our previous Mercedes.

Thanks and ...
Thanks. I see that now.
But to be correct, I don't believe that I have a problem with reading comprehension. You see, I would have been able to comprehend what Kelvin had meant when he wrote "on a 01' A8L" had I seen it and read it. This said, I think my problem has more to do thoroughness (or in this case, lack thereof). If I was more thorough, I would have seen "on a 01' A8L" and, therefore, would not have asked the question.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm scheduled to take my car in next week and so far Audi has picked up the cost for replacements - which (in my opinion) they should continue to do until we can get a set that will last more than 20K miles.
