1998 A8 D2 Boot problems
Another conundrum for everyone,
This is how it goes, the central locking boot pump doesn't lock/unlock, I have to use the key in the boot lock (Old skool huh). I can here it hissing and humming, it seems to over run for nearly 60 secs. The boot also shuts oddly, as you look at the back of the car, the one side of the boot looks open while the other looks really shut!!
Help please

It almost sounds like you have a hinge problem...maybe one bent inward (or outward)or binding somehow...or a binding strut. Not much else would cause the boot lid to settle that unevenly....other than the rubber lid stops on each side. A hinge not folding or strut not compressing correctly could prevent the lid from popping up under it's own power.

Sam,
The uneven closing was down to a small bolt rolling round in the back of my trunk, it must have come out with something else and dropped off back to then obstruct the boot lid. It was very dark when I was looking and didn't spot it until today. I still have to sort the problem with central locking controlled trunk lock. I'll live with it until I have some spare time over the festive season. It'll be a pump or rod or pipe or something.
Cheers
