What is the difference between single and dual beam Xenons? And what bulb type would you suggest?

I know next to nothing about Xenons, the guy on eBay suggests 8K would be Iceburg Blue which sounds great to me, but what is this about bulb types?

http://www.vvme.com/catalog/list-s-10145-10146.html</a

Default

Normal xenon = normal HID lights + halogen big light. Bi-xenon = only 1 HID with variable reflector.

Default An example of bi-xenon.

Light yellow = normal low beams.

Dark yellow = additional high beam range.

Default Resist the urge to go with over 6000K. Light output is actually reduced, while rice factor increases

Just my opinion, but I don't think 8000K will suit this car. Not to mention, you'll be losing light output after ~5000K or so.

At one point I had 6000K and liked it, but that's as high on the Kelvin scale I would be willing to go. It was a good combination of OEM looks and excellent visibility, without suffering too much light loss.

If you want even brighter, opt for a 55W HID setup. I would proceed with caution, however, as the A8's factory projectors are a little too liberal in how they throw off light. If you look closely at the light, you can see the reflector bowl actually puts some light out through the bottom without actually focusing it through the projector optics.

They don't have the sharp cutoff that might be necessary to avoid blinding other drivers. With the 35W setup, you should be A OK, but venturing up into 55W territory might be pushing the limits of the optics.

Hope this helps.

Alex.

Default None of the answers you've rec'd are correct...

I have D2 Bi-xenons, and I have taken them completely apart and transfered the guts to housings with US DOT APPROVED stickers on them so I know what is contained in the housings and how they work.

On low beam you get light from the xenon bulb; on high beam you get light from the xenon bulb that is brighter than on low beam due to an increase in voltage (these lights have a relector, not a lense[hence the 'R' bulb designation instead of the 'S' of US spec cars], and there is no way for the reflector to change, other than the self leveling) and with high beam the halogen comes on as with the US spec lights.
