Fixed the Problem
Since it would start with a puff of starting fluid in the air intake hose, I decided to drive it. It ran fine for four miles, then the yellow EPC line showed up in the dash and the car would not respond to throttle input; it stayed at 1,100 rpms. I drove it back home and decided that when your cell phone or computer starts messing up, you reboot it.
I shut off everything and disconnected the negative battery cable for ten minutes or so. Once the battery was reconnected, I followed the instructions to keep the ignition key in the second position for at least five seconds before turning the engine over.
It started right up.
I drove it forty miles, and it behaving well.
Interestingly, the computer display between the speedometer and the tachometer only displayed what transmission selection the trans was in. Now it shows everything as it should.
So, reboot your car, and then it works great!
Hopefully this will never occur again.
Thanks everyone for the advise, especially jfrahm advising to spray a puff of starting fluid in the air intake hose.

I was just trying to determine if you had gas to the injectors or not via the starting fluid. It should not cure anything, just helped us understand what was needed to make the car start.
You probably have some significant problem that has gone away for a bit. I do not know what "the yellow EPC line" is. As regards the display, there is a button to dim it for night driving or distraction and your reboot probably undid a previous press of the button.
You might have a throttle body or MAF problem and it'll probably come back. Maybe someone else recognizes these symptoms. I would not put it past a fuel pump problem, perhaps a dying pump or the wrong one fitted.
