I'm replacing the (non-heated) windshield on my '97 A8 while having front end damage repaired (deer strike). The body shop is very reputable but is quoting over $850 for the windshield job due to special bonding (?). I had a windshield quote a while back for around $250-300. Am I missing something? Anyone had a windshield replaced? Thanks!

I had the windsheild replaced on my 01 couple of weeks ago. Insurance would only pay for an aftermarket one. So they installed one. It looked flat and had the blue sun visor, and a mirror brkt. I was not happy with this so I called the dealer. $325 for factory heated glass. The aftermarket junk was $398. Made a call
to insurance, anything to save a buck. Now I have a factory piece.

I just got a quote for a 99 A8, non solar glass, Pilkinson brand, 350 installed.. my last A8 also had this glass, very nice

I put the pre-facelift Pilkington glass into my A8. I am OK with the mirror mount and feel I could get it off of there if I wanted to. The pre-facelift glass was a couple hundred cheaper than the one without the mount and in CO your windshield might only last you a week so I felt it was a good option.

There is a Pilkington in my 4runner that is holding up well also. OEM glass is better but Pilkington does not seem to be garbage, at least.

Finding a good installer is key for the A8 also I am told. Someone who will make sure the glass won't squeak against the dash. I used local recommendations off the board here with good results.
