Wiper position
Can anyone shed light on "wiper phasing?"
From time to time, the wipers on my 99 A8 stop while still quite high on the windshield. They also appear to overstroke the wind screen glass.
I have never reset the wiper positions, but this would be my first response. just reset both arms. But.... they don't always stop high. I did not notice if they always over stroke.
I have not had a chance to look into this yet, just got back from 700 miles out and return for a family birthday get together.
Any experience?
TIA

i was having the same problem until i realized one of the wiper pivot was starting to seize
I'm currently in the process of cleaning the whole thing, one of the pivot was really jammed, i'm wondering how the motor was even able to move it around, but definitely that was the issue for the wipers not to come back fully at the rest position.

Did the repair on Kimberly's A4
I cracked the windshield trying to pry the thing off....just tap it from the top and it will pop off.

good link, see my comments also

Wiper position thankyous
Thanks all
It's so comforting to know that "this doesn't only happen to me".
I guess a "service call" is in order. I had lubed the wiper pivots from the top a few months ago, perhaps the new found freedom of movement has allowed some damage to show it's self.
They are only machines.

Wiper position follow up
Hmmm
Removal of the wiper assembly on the D2 is very easy. After the wiper arms are shifted off the taper shafts that is. PB Blaster to the rescue!
And what did my eyes behold? Why a broken driver's side casting. The one that contains the wiper arm pivot shaft. 'Broken where it joins the tubular shaft that crosses to the passenger side equal. The pivot on the drivers side is in great shape, but the off side pivot shows rusting and pitting that has since loosened by the previous application of lube.
Well, not having a spare unit on hand, It's J-B weld to the rescue. test alignment, roughened up all surfaces, then a good cleaning with Brake kleen. Coat the faying parts with mixed epoxy, then press the parts home. Follow up with a wrap of the joint in epoxy saturated glass cloth. Looks good! I'll need to wait and see if it's enough. Certainly good enough until we get an ice storm or the like.
Not a worry, the pivots were cleaned up and relubed prior to the repair assembly. It's raining and dark now, the entire business will go back in the car tomorrow morning.
All is well!
