new here and considering an 05 or 06 a8/a8l...

some questions...

how much can i expect to spend for a cpo 05 a8 or cpo 06 a8?

other than the grill, what's the difference between the 05 and 06? is it worth the extra $6-10k more for the 06?

i've been perusing the cars.com website and am seeing asking prices between 22k-32k for an 05 and 26k-38k+ for an 06...

i'm probably going to be pulling the trigger in may, but i figured i do some research beforehand...

also, does the rear seat fold down at all?

Seat will never fold down. There is a ski hole pass through thats an option, or you can DIY. (its there they just don't cut it out.)

For 2006, the A8 receives a new single-frame front grille, standard adaptive front lighting, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a redesigned color driver information center. A new Audi Exclusive package includes Valcona leather seats, a wood-and-leather steering wheel, upgraded floor mats and unique wood trim. A new 18-inch wheel design debuts, and 19-inch performance tires are now available only in the Sport Package. Finally, the A8's Bluetooth system is now Treo Smartphone-compatible.

While I do like the new grill, when I was looking for my car 8 months ago it was just too much $$ to justify the 06 over the 05. Half way through the 05 model year they got rid of OnStar and put in the bluetooth system. I highly recommend getting a late 05 with the bluetooth system.

05 had the option of a wood wheel, the 06 has wood and leather wheel. I would have preferred the 06 wheel as all wood wheel is rather hard, and quite cold in the dead of winter. Besides that, there is not much difference. I was not going to pay upwards of $8K for those differences. If the price were more similar, I would of course go for the 06.

If you can make a set of curtains, you can make a pass through. I have yet to do the work, but will when the weather gets warmer.

I will document the whole procedure, but it will involve cutting instruments, some sewing, fabric chalk.

A good automotive upholstery shop could handle it too.

The 2005 A8 (in the USA) did not get the cushion extension.

My 05 has the cushion extension, which I have fully extended, if you have the ventilated seats option. The passenger side does not.

will having the "L" make my life that much easier with two car seats?

also, does the "L" add more to the ~14 cu. ft trunk? (which, btw, is smaller than the 09 a4's 16.7 cu.ft trunk... hmmmm...)

saw a listing on cars.com for an 05 cpo a8 w/40k mi for $27k? what would be a good price for that?
