Just purchased my wife a new 05 A4 Cab and I'm about ready to order a new A8L. My problem is I have been a long time MB owner, 8 cars, am I making a mistake? Thanks for everyones comments.

Have owned 12 BMWs, two MBZ. My '05 A8 SWB is the best car, the best piece of machinery I've ever owned. I love driving it.

Hi boxman. I had a 1999 E-320 4matic for 5 years and bought an A8L 2004 delivered on 23 October 2003. I got all options except solar sunroof and alcantra. It is night blue/amareto. I love the car. It is better built than the mercedes and so far has been a much better car. I have not looked back. The new Mercedes just don't in my opinion have the bullet proof armor tank look of the 1999 and older S class I fweel Mercedes has built down to a price and don't have the quality they once did. This is only my opinion.

especially if the dealer sells VW's under that same roof. My dealer has still not "gotten" that people who plunk down 75 large for a premium luxobarge expect better treatment than those who spennd 18 large for a four-banger Jetta.

Example: My A8L is in today for its 15K maintenance, MMI/NAV upgrade, Sirius Installation, Inspection. What do they give me as a loaner? A dirty white Jetta 4-banger with 50K miles.

I suppose I should be happy just to get the free loaner but I am envious of the treatment my Lexus and BMW owning friends get. I have stated my concerns to the GM at the dealership but I might as well be talking to my cat.

<sigh>

BUT...the A8L is a truly phenomenal work of engineering.
