05 A8L ABS and Parking Brake Fault
#21
So, as usual, the issue came back.. (ESP Fault, Parking Brake Malfunc., etc..) no issues with the key, however.
And this time I had a CEL.
Pulled the codes.. P0741 and P0175.
The first one (P0741) is related to the torque converter. This initially worried me, because I know that the seal in the torque converter is prone to failure, causing all kinds of transmission issues along the way. I don't need that headache right now.
The second code (P0175) is due to the system running rich, specifically in bank 2.
Now I should at that recently I have felt a bit of a vibration during idle, and I've also been experiencing a decrease in gas mileage. So, after some research on here, I found that the ignition coils may be to blame.
But what I also found (and this is the interesting part) is that the ignition coils can also trigger the ESP Fault, etc..
So I purchased 8 new coils on Amazon Prime for a cool $17ish a pop.
Next day, pop them in, clear codes, go for a drive, etc..
Voila! Problem resolved [again]. It's been two days with no issues, and I've already noticed an ever so slight increase in gas mileage. Also, I gained a bunch of power back, that I didn't even realize was missing. The car is like a missile now.
Also, both CEL codes that came up haven't come back. No codes at all!
So to anyone out there experiencing these faults and issues.. it might be worth checking your ignition coils!
In my case, I can't believe that I had the brake light switch AND coil(s) fail at the same time, when both can trigger the ESP Fault.
And also, I might be worth noting that the P0741 code could possible be related the the ignition coils as well.

I am getting ready to fix this problem right now. Bad brake module, rear pads shot, one caliper in the rear needs to be replaced. i was quoted around $2000.00 parts and labor. That includes the $738.00 for the rear caliper the tech is telling me he can only source it from the dealer. He is claiming that he can't even slap new pads on the rear because when the parking brake motor fails, it "locks" the caliper in a way that you can't replace the pads.

That's BS, Audi even supplies the tool under the trunk lid to unlock the caliper;
