Only 2006 has BGK, everything else before the facelift BFM. 06 is the only year with belt and the engine code is different from the others belt.

Cheers,

Louis

Right. Too many letters and codes. But it has a timing belt.

It is 2006 and engine is BGK. I was thinking BVJ, which is FSI engine started 2007.

Continental pro series timing belt and pump kits are a decent OEM quality replacement option.

Default Switch to timing chain

Thanks guys, Ralph
I'd be willing to believe that the switch to a timing chain occurred in July'06, in time for release of the 2007 model year, but definitely not in '05.

Any opinions on which kit to use other than Blaupart. Nothing against them just wondering if there is another as good but less expensive.

I do not now have an Audi with a timing belt, but had one on the first of the Audi 8's (I believe - model year 1990), called the V8.

BUT, I do own a Porsche 928 GTS (and owned 5 928's previously) all of which have a similar belt for the cam drive/timing. I do 95% of my own service work on this car. These belts are longer than the Audi belts, and many 928 owners, myself included have found that Continental belts tend to stretch over time significantly more than the OE Porsche belt, or the aftermarket Gates belt. A 928 parts supplier friend has determined that Gates is NOW the OE supplier for the Porsche OE belt (928 production was stopped in 1995), and the only one I will buy for my GTS.

So, I'd probably be much more oriented to buying a Gates belt if I were needing a replacement for a pre-2007 Audi. Just my 'opinion'.

I can't think of a single reason to avoid the OE belt. To save $20?

$20 difference wouldn't be a good reason, but $400 difference for all OEM parts needed might be.
