ok first of sorry if this has been asked before but feel like im stuck in a google hole on these so thought id ask directly. ok so i just recently bought my first a8 d3 2009 3.0tdi se today. it has the auto changer and dvd player/ sd card but no ami port but from what i can find out ami was standard from 2008 (or am i wrong). does this mean i need to bin the dvd player to be able to hook my phone up to stream music? during my searching ive also noticed where the disc drive for the navigation in the boot should be is just an empty bracket but the sat nav works so does the dvd player serve as the sat nav disc drive aswell? again sorry if this topic has been done to death.

AMI was standard in the USA by about 2008. This is a forum with mostly North America members, but all are welcome of course and we have some great members from many parts of the world. You will have to check what was std. for UK. USA vehicles tend to be "loaded" with many things standard relative to Euro norms.

Even if it has AMI, that doesn't get you streaming. AMI gets you a hard wire connection to a player like an iPhone. It interfaces that (corded) unit nicely to the MMI screens and buttons and of course ties directly into the car's audio system. To connect wirelessly, you need another adapter to plug into the AMI unit instead of the normal player device connector. Audi sold them briefly in USA, but doesn't currently AFAIK.

In glove box CD player is not related to Nav unit.
