2003 Audi a8 d3 3.7 v8 headlight problem...

Hey, finally bought my dream car, and found out i had a bulb out, however upon further inspection i realised the headlight was unplugged...i plug it in and everything works......but the keys are in my pocket and the lights are set to off in the cabin....and its only on the (left)passenger side headlight (low beam projector) that seems to be drawing power all the time.

Do any of you audi fanatics know what my problem is and what i need to stop/fix this? Ive swapped bulbs but they all just light up and stay on and the drivers side works seemingly as normal???

I suspect the light module. You could try swapping and see if the problem moves with it.

Can you direct me to the light module? Do you mean taking out the headlight and moving it to the other sides plug?

Kind regards, pouches

The HID Controller

No, I mean the Hella HID controller attached to
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.aud...2d4644464c.png
the back of the headlight. AUDI wants you to remove the headlight to work on it, but you can get to them in place with difficulty.

Ah thank you scott, i will give that a bash and let you know how i get on. Much appreciated. Any other thing i could check incase this isnt the issue?

Ok just had a look scott neither sides of my headlight have them...maybe my car was before these were implemented? Theres space for them but not there nor is there wiring for it...

It looks as though the wiring comes off the main loom and plugs straight into the headlight? No hid controller there on both sides, drivers side works as it should just this issue with the passengers side unit...

Pouches1987 04-14-2019 01:07 PM

Also in both headlights both bulbs are h7 bulbs and what would be the projector bulb there is no burner? I really need to fix this whatever is causing it...like both low and high beams are h7 bulbs....can anyone link pics as to what i should be looking at because nothing looks missing and wiring looks as it should no botching

Yes, there's also the curve light module

Both are prone to water intrusion.

Scott, do you know of a fix for this? Any way i can check relays? Locations? Coz this is really stumped me as to why its drawing power while the car is off...when its unplugged i get the warning about no bulbs on that quarter but when its plugged in warnings go away but just stays on...i am waiting for vcds to come in the post so ill see what that tells me and post on here. Should i just buy another headlight unit and try that?

OK, there are several flavors of headlamp depending on features. What are the P/Ns of yours. Should be on labels top corner fender side:

FO 941 003 N?
EO 941 003 N?

EVERYTHING ELSE HAS PERISHED APART FROM THIS ONE STICKER UNFORTUNATELY.

Thank you for trying to help me.

Just to clarify, my car is up on axle stands would this cause her to keep a light on?

Pouches1987 04-16-2019 10:41 AM

Ok jusr done a VIN check on my a8 and it says shes a 2004 on an 03 plate...and lookin at some headlight i believe my ones are the ones that have no ballast no burners and no dRLs? Just the bog standard ones if theres such a thing...i am hopeless at this issue....having the patients of a saint to replace the two post cat lambdas on the other hand...there done tbh haha the pre cat ones i cannot find...haha

ScottCNelson 04-16-2019 01:50 PM

Yeah, I can't tell what headlight model you have from that label. Perhaps the other one is in better shape? I don't want to speculate what your problem could be without knowing what type of headlight you have. You could probably get the whole light assembly off eBay for less than $300, but you would have to have the correct p/n!

Hey scott, i believe the part number is 4EO 941 003 N

OK, this clears up a lot. You're in the UK, Land of Right Hand Drive and you have a very early D3 A8 with, as you said, bog standard halogen headlamps. Unfortunately, I've never seen such a configuration config over here, so I'm not gonna be much help. Perhaps this will - you can get a second hand part cheap as chips, if you want to try swapping:
