The part numbers seem to be correct. You didn't mention if this problem was always there (ever since you bought the car), or if the right tail light originally worked as it should and then, at some point, it started malfunctioning.

The Right tail light was working fine when I bought the car. The Left one was not. I bought the Left one and replaced it and it then worked fine with the new one. The right one is the problem. It had been working for months after I bought the car and then all of a sudden it stopped working. Could there be an issue with some kind of computer reset? What about disconnecting the battery (pos and neg) for a couple hours? I don't know if I'll have problems after I connect it back up.

So, does the center brake light work? Asking because the brake light switches do fail on these cars from time to time. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see anything about you verifying it being good. It's not clear to me if the problem is only with one brake light or all of them.

The center light is working. All the lights work except for the right tail light assembly and only the brake light portion. Bottom line is only the right brake light is non functional.

Ok, so I ordered the VCDS Software and cable so I could do the scans. I received it today and scanned it successfully and now I could use some help deciphering the faults. I just copied the faults I thought are related to my issue. I really only had a couple faults besides these. Anyway here is the scan portion I think is related to my problem. The left inner tail light was replaced about 7/8 months ago and the dash light went away. Everything works on the left. The fault codes were not cleared. My battery is dated May 2014 so it's approaching 4 years old not original nor OEM. Voltage is 12.4 not running and 14.1 running at night with lights on. Not sure what to make of the, "00927 - Terminal 30 (Right)" fault. Any help is appreciated.

I cleared the codes after the first scan and drove it a while. The 00927 Terminal 30 (Right) is no longer there. Here's the new scan where I list only the areas with fault codes.

Still have the Right Inner Tail Light brake light not working. Really could use the help to get this working. Thanks in advance.

Try this: disconnect the left tail lamp. Disconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery after a short while (10 seconds should do), with the left tail lamp still disconnected.
Try and see if the right tail lamp fully works.

It wouldn't surprise me if the whole time the right tail lamp didn't work because of a defective left tail lamp, as shown in the logs!

Ok Silkworm, first let me thank you for taking the time to help. Really appreciate it. Here's what I did and results:
I did exactly as you said and the brake light still didn't work.
I repeated the procedure you suggested except I left the battery disconnected for around 30 minutes. It still didn't work.
I connecting the left lamp assembly back and tried but the right assembly still didn't work.
I started the car and now I had the bulb out (left side ) icon on the dash.
I ran a scan and saved it.
I took it for a ride a couple of miles and got some gas turning the car off.
When I started the car again the bulb out icon was no longer on the dash. No lights on the dash at all.
I tested all the lights (i.e., lights on, backup light, rear fog lights, turn signal,) and they all work left and right except for the right brake light.
I tried clearing the left light fault codes but they would clear and then immediately re-appear. Can't clear the codes despite the fact that the left light assembly is fully functional.
I ran another scan and below is everything listed with a fault. The Terminal 30 fault is an interesting one. Don't know what it is.

Finally fixed and what a lesson. As it turns out the D3 does not have break lights on the inner tail lights. Only the outer tail lights are supposed to light up when the break pedal is depressed. What threw me off was that the left inner tail light was lighting up when the break pedal was depressed. I then thought that the right inner tail light should be lighting up as well. Well the left inner tail light had a short to ground and in fact was defective. The VCDS diagnostic was telling me that the left inner tail light did in fact have a short. Lesson learned, pay attention to the diagnostic software, it works. At the dealer they told me that the Comfort Control Module was fried when the left inner tail light shorted out. I have no way of really knowing this. I would venture to say that if I were fixing it I would've replaced the left inner tail light first then deal with the module second. So the left inner tail light and the comfort control module (which took two weeks to get from Germany, programmed to the VIN number) took care of the problem. Everything working fine now. Thanks to all my Audi friends for all the help.
