Default 2007 A8L Vagcom code help

I recently decided that I 'needed' a D3 A8. I sold my 2000 A6 that I had for the last 8 years and have started the hunt. I just inspected one this evening and it shows some codes. The AC wasn't working well and I see one of the codes pertains to the HVAC. Also it appeared the large headlight light bulbs nearest the grill were not illuminated even with the brights on. Other than this, the car drove awesome....

Thoughts on how major these codes are?

Default Quick generic reply for you....

Hi, just quickly, the 'brights' are not legal in the US to use as main beams, but only as 'passing lights' or 'headlamp flash'. Some idiot being paid too much in some regulatory agency somewhere ran screaming at the thought of 'zee germans' actually bringing effective lighting to Uhmericah and outlawed them, before running to his/her ethnic peace bicycle.

good news? With VacCom you set the car to 'ROW' (Rest of world? Go figure) and the lights work as intended. As standard, just the trap doors over half the Xenons produce low/high beams. Mine are done, and despite the standard Xenons being shockingly bad, the main beams are now excellent.

Not sure on the HVAC code, could be massive, could be intermittent. I don't want to say either way, there are much smarter guys than me on here that can answer that for you, but if it was me, I'd clear the codes and see what comes back. As you probably know, all sorts of weird things 'snowball' codes in our cars, and sometimes they just come as the result of a flat battery etc...

Private sale or dealer with a warrantee? Big difference.

Drove awesome? Yup, welcome to the world of looking back at your car as you walk away on the car park.

Keep us posted,

K9

K9 is back!

Also right about high beam. Regarding HID's, new OSRAM XENARC 66240 SVS would make huge difference.

Default DRLs

On my 2007 the headlight bulbs closest to the grill are the DRLs, not high beams. They are turned on/off via the MMI.

This one is a craigslist 'by owner'. However, I suspect this is a small dealer posing as an owner. His ownership statements do not match the 'autocheck' record that I pulled. I would not have a warranty with the car. It is my intent to get a ~70K 2007 and live with the repairs. I do a mix of DIY or try to troubleshoot with VAGCOM and then get independent quotes for repairs. It worked well for the A6 and I also have an 01 TT. The other option is an 05 with ~100k for about $12K less than what I have seen the 07's priced at.

Thanks for your help....
