I currently own an A8 and use it regularly for long trips. I like cruising at 70mph and 2k rpm, saving a bit on gas and engine wear. I'm considering buying a new S8 and wonder if it can be ordered with the longer A8 final drive ratio? I have no problem giving up a tenth of a sec or two in acceleration to torque peak in 1st gear. After that acceleration should be a wash.

When I ordered mine 12 weeks ago, the dealership told me that there was no custom option aside than those a few options. I was trying to get the all seasons tires, the answer was "You get what the factory makes for the car; the Summer High Performance ones." I plan to install the 275/35/20 A/S tires when the car comes. The transmission gear alternation seems impossible to me.

I think the only "custom" option is a special paint if your willing to pay the $2500 extra.
