2008 A8 all of 30 days old and in the shop already - Transmission Problem
Well I've had the new 2008 A8 all of about 30 days and already had to have it towed to the dealer for a transmission problem.
I drove the car early Saturday without a problem. I parked it in my driveway... and jumped back in a couple of hours later to head out to dinner... started the car up and placed it in reverse. And, what do you know, the car would not back up... No Error Codes, everything functioning in the car like normal. The car would only move a very slow walking pace, if I rev'd the engine to 4k - 5k RPM. It would crawl in reverse... same thing with putting the car in "D" to move it fwd. Again, No Error Codes.
Very grateful it decided to give up the ghost in my driveway vs... on the road.
The car was with the dealer today... they originally thought it might have been a vacuum problem, No Dice... they can't figure it out. No computer diag codes etc... They even suspect tranny fluid. I don't see how, the vehicle has been functioning fine since I picked it up and there hasn't been a single drop of fluid on the ground.
Very disappointed and prepared to push the issue with dealer and AoA - can anyone say Lemon Law.
Anyone ever experience a similar problem with their D3?
Kevin

Re: 2008 A8 all of 30 days old and in the shop already - Transmission Problem
Too bad; hopefully it will be resolved soon. It's a wonderful car, but still a man-made machine that might not be perfect. Don't be disappointed too much; it happens to all car makes & models.
As for Lemon Laws, in most states these laws can be invoked only if there are multiple repair attempts and problems over a specified period of time. Keep a log of all your dealer visits, days in shop, phone calls, etc.

Re: 2008 A8 Transmission Problem - Update
Well the dealer ended up swapping out the transmission this week. I got lucky AoA had a new trans. in NJ we didn't have to wait on Germany to ship a new unit 30 - 60 days from now... so I was only out of the car for a week.
After the car was re-detailed... the car looks and runs as good as new.
