Default 2008 A8 MMI don't work

Any idea how to get this working? The MMI on the 2008 A8 stopped working after the radio radio made a crackling noise. It suddenly stopped working for a while in the past and an electrician replaced the tuner in the trunk. It worked for 3 weeks and now dead again. It boots and initialize then goes black and cause a clock ticking sound coming from the rear passenger side speaker area. Any ideas?

One of modules is not working, or you have bad connection in the fiber optic ring. Most probably around that radio module. You need VCDS scan, including optic ring scan, in order to find what exactly is wrong.

Thanks, does the VCDS tool do the optic scan too or are they separate? Does he VCDS too isolate or just throw me in a a rat next.
Are there and good and reasonable priced VCDS tool out there?

Ross-Tech VCDS is $350. It scans optic ring too. You, with a little help of your friends here, interpret what it means.

Default Same problem I had when the fuse in the back blown

Turn on MMI, clicking relay sound in the rear deck or seat - the mmi came up initialized and turns black -
Search for one of my posts, there's fuse in the back next to the Radio and DVD area.

Cheers,

Louis

Thanks, so I just went out to check that in the dark with a flashlight. It rained a little earlier. The fuse was fine. Here's what I suspect. I saw a water streak below the fuse box and traced it above to a water droplet on the bottom of the dvd drive. I think after rain or car wash water dripped into a component and shorted something out. The question is what got hit? Water is entering from someplace I can't see obviously. Yikes.

One more question, does that allow system restart when batteries dies or power goes low? or does system update rather than the stealer/dealer?

I'm not sure which fuse you mean..."the fuse was fine" There are fuses on both sides. From the reference to the DVD drive, I'm guessing you mean the Nav drive on the (U.S.) drivers side, though for ones w/ rear seat video like mine there is also a DVD changer a bit further back on the same side.

BUT, there is also a very heavy fuse (50A?) that has a master sort of function apparently for all this stuff. It is over with the panel above the battery on the other side of the trunk IIRC. When I had my bumper repainted at one point a body shop blew that fuse accidentally. When I picked car up MMI and everything about the system was dead. They couldn't figure out so too kit to dealer. Dealer diagnosed it as that heavy fuse, replaced it, and all solved.
