2008 D3 A8 Trunk Issue
Just picked up a 2008 A8 with the sport package and the trunk does not open on it's own. You have to give it a slight pull up and then it goes through all the way. If you don't the passenger side you hear the motor kick in and it lifts a bit, but the driver side is like stuck and it's unable to lift so it closes. It is like something keeps it stuck on that side. But again if you give it a slight pull up as soon as you hit either the button on the door, remote, or trunk it opens up fully. It also closes fine. It is just the startup part that without a slight push the drivers side is stuck.

Lots of posts about it, just have a search...

If you are talking about the spring loaded pins that push the trunk up, It's a dealer item that was part of a campaign so any dealer should be able to get those for you. Also since yours is a 2008, I think you should have the updated heavier duty aluminum bodied trunk motor so I would replace the trunk struts.

It's a common issue that affected my car as well, its more than likely the motor and/or the struts.
If you only need the slightest of assistance to open the trunk then I would suggest replacing the struts first you can get the pair from RockAuto for $88 shipped.
I replaced the motor on mine first, the correct motor is the metal housing vs plastic one, I think the part # ends in a G or H, mine worked for 2 weeks then had the same issue where it would try and open then give up, yet the slightest assistance and it opened fine. I get a used motor for $300, new is over $700 I think.
It been like that for months, I just didn't get around to it, yesterday I replaced my struts and it works as intended, the struts definitely weaken, I could not compress the new one, but could the old. that extra assistance from the new strut was what was needed for my car.

Yes mine needs just a little help starting the lift but its not every time. Seems if the car is sitting a certain way its a issue. A year after I bought the car I had problems that it wouldn't open at all with the motor. The dealer took like 4 days to fix they replaced everything motor struts and the hinges. I figured the push pin might be all it needs. Thanks for the input thou. Its a great car I have very little mileage on it for a 9 year old car.
