8L 2007 random electrical system shutdowns HLEP:(
We love our Audi. It has 15k miles on it. Recently it has had a problem that could have serious consequences we fear.
We started with no problems at 8 am. Drove for approximately 120 miles. Parked for 1 & 1/2 hours. Drove 25ish miles and then made 2 stops with in one hour. We then drove 1 mile and stopped for 2 hours. At all times we were more than 10 feet from the car and no key was left in the car.
After our 2 hour stop upon trying to start the car we had the following happen
The parking brake engaged and would not disengage.
The tire monitor came on flashing.
The headlight distance sensor failure light came on flashing.
We finally got the parking brake to disengage, my husband got out of the car and examined the tires. They looked fine. We drove to a gas station with air. He checked each tire. They were at the proper pressure per the guage on the air hose. While the car would display the screen that should have shown the tire pressure it only showed green dashes. The tire monitor went off we drove out of the gas station.
We stopped at a stop sign 1/4 block from the gas station. The tire monitor light came back on, the parking brake engaged, the headlight distance monitor came on, the air conditioned went off and then right back on, the display between the rpm gage and the mph gage began to flash orange with no display. This went on for several minutes. We called the closest dealer. We got the parking brake off. Lost our cell phone signal. Drove to another area, got the dealer's rep. back on the phone.
We continued to run the car with air conditioner on while we waited for the towing company that Audi Warrenty sent. All of the windows and door locks worked.
The car was towed a substantial distance (our cost $250.00)to the closest dealer. We rented a car for our return home. (also a substantial distance)
The dealer then tells us the reason this all happened was that the battery was low because sometime (they knew not when) the key was left in the car for 6ish hours and the car remained in the ready to serve position. Well this was not so. Then they said that the car power button had been depressed for 6ish hours and that was why this had happened. Also not so. This is why I gave you the lengthy discription of our travels at the beginning of this post.
We live in a mountain area. We do not have cell phone service in some of the areas we travel in. That is why we are so concerned about this problem. If we could travel and rely on cell phone we could bear the inconveience BUT we do not. I often travel alone which is another cause for worry. Please help if you can.

Tell your dealer there was a TSB issued on this prob on 6/4/08....
Covers 07 A8's. Radio does not enter sleep mode, drains battery. The TSB # is 91 08 20 2014127/2
Call the Audi A8 advocate # located in your ownership package if you do not get satisfaction.
Best of luck

Thank you for the information and we have passed it on. I find it hard to believe though that the radio drawing power would drain a fully charged battery in 2 hours. I read somewhere on these or another board that the shut down to conserve power is the remote entry system, the door locks and the windows before any other thing. Our order was much different and included engaging the parking break.
Why would the parking brake engage to save power? How would the parking brake engage?
