Hi

Before replacing the compressor I thought I would check on fuse and relay and whilst there are some good descriptions around I thought I'd record my fumblings so any others might find them more easily.

In the UK they are under the left side (passenger) footwell carpet. You need to remove the plastic sill and lower A pillar trim (pulls off by hand). Then need to remove the carpet (again just pull - it is hard because of the shape and the underlay but it will come). Finally you will see a moulded black EPP cover in the footwell - remove this and you will then see an orange 30A fuse (1) with the 373 relay (2) behind it (you may need to undo the tie (3) on the wiring to get to the relay.

Replace as necessary.

It wasn’t a relay for me so on to the compressor. I will get one from : http://www.air-suspension-shop.com/i...a=113&lang=eng

Where the heck is the steering wheel? Just kidding. A leak detected usually means a bad air damper/strut.

Just a word about German engineering. Who in his right mind would put fuses and relays in such places. It is like your stow breaker is underneath a bath tab and the fridge one inside the chimney in your attic.

How to replace the Compressor

I have a 2008 A8L and the compressor stuck on and burnt out - almost set on fire! I got a compressor from ebay from airsus in the Netherlands for aorund £350 that included shipping. Really helpful guy. It would have been about £60 more but if you have a VAT number he can save charging you VAT! Incidentally, the same part from a parts dealer for the geniune Audi compressor is £1,000 without fitting. The ones he sells are made by the same people but you save £700 ish by forfiting the Audi badge. They also have a two year warranty too! Rik can be found here: Phone: +31 521 76 90 26
E-mail: info@airsus.nl ebay shop: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/AIRMATIC-AI...p2047675.l2563

The relay and fuse I got from Audi parts. The two together were £17 ish. They may need the part number for the relay its: 4HO 951 253 A. Bix say its made in Portugal! The fuse is a big mama so dont assume you can get one from Halfords - bigger than normal.

Right - ive changed the relay and the fuse so now - AND ONLY NOW - im about to change the compressor. (if the relay or fuse were to blame as soon as I plugged in £350 worth of new compressor it would blow up again) Heres how.....http://forum.a8parts.co.uk/showthread.php?p=22247

Does the compressor have a WABCO logo on it? Normally there is one on the label Along with a ATE/Teves logo. There should also be "WABCO" on the cream color plastic exhaus port that faces the ground on installation. Otherwise it is a knock-off.

can't find the fuse

I have the same issue with my suspension on 2005 A8. I've pulled back the carpet and found the relay (373) but there is no orange fuse in front of it, in fact there is no orange fuse period. It looks different from the pictures above as there is nothing in front of the relay switch.

PLEASE HELP! where else could this fuse be?

mishar 07-13-2013 11:04 AM

One in those pictures is newer (2009) and right hand drive (UK) so mirror image of many things. Yours is at that side a bit higher, underneath the knee trim.

Wow! Very helpful! I own an A8 D3 2007 model. Replaced suspension bellows and Orings. Car drove like a dream until after having it carwashed, it started flashing the two suspension signals and refused to rise. Checked and found out there's no power to the relay. Could water have caused this?

Yes, if you have clogged sunroof drains or cowl drains, you can have any number of problems. Otherwise, only a bad connection affected by moisture remains as an option.

which can interface did you use for that? is the k+can vag interface ok for that? i got the software but not the right interface.
