I found many batteries that various stores believed fit my 2005 A8L. All were too short. Too short might sound okay, but the clamp that holds the stock battery in place doesn't really clamp down on the battery. Therefore, the short battery can and will slide back and forth in the battery compartment/tray. (by short, I mean the largest dimension... Actually the width' I suppose.)

After looking all over and buying the wrong one twice' I went ahead and paid the $190 +tax to the dealer and I'm in business.

This is one thing where trying to save money is a waste of your time.

It takes just a little research to find out the dimensions of the battery!
I changed mine to this one(in Europe): http://www.autoakud.com/3/bosch-s5-0.../mode//brand//
Click on the pictures to see the dimensions.
Did the change myself! NO CODING or "something" and the car works normally...
