Advanced Key Auto Locks Car? WTF...
I had a strange situation happen for the second time:
I drove to a gas station using the advanced key feature (i.e. key not physically in the ignition). I turned off the car using the stop engine button and left the key in the cupholder.
Opened the door and got out of the car car to pump some gas. I got into a conversation with a guy with a 997TT so it took a little longer than usual. After a few minutes of conversation I reached for the door handle only to find that it locked itself!
The key was in the car (in the cupholder) the whole time. My 3 year old son was also locked in the back seat car seat!!!
This had happened to me another time while detailing the car (son wasn't in the car then...).
Can this be a "feature" of the car? What sense does it make to have it lock the doors if it senses the key is inside the car?
AofA has no idea if this is a feature or not. Does anyone have any more info? Can I turn the f'ing thing off?
TIA

Check your MMI central locking settings under Car - Setup Mode
Press the Car button then the Setup button and select Central Locking - make sure Auto Lock is turned OFF. This will require you to lock the door when you exit by either pushing the lock button on your keychain or by pushing the small grey button on any door handle. If the key is already in the car, the door should not lock in this configuration.
