It should not be "free to the engine bay".

Is the part "Missing" ? I found mine was just disconnected. Look to see if the actual sensor is there. it was easy to spot where the wire was supposed to plug into. Just look where the wire could reach to and see if there is a place to plug it into. See if this picture helps at all.

The sensor pic with the 7 dots is the part i mean is free to touch the engine bay air, should it be like that or should it be connected to something? It looked clean to me, i dont know if that matters but..

That end is open to the air.
It sniffs for hydrocarbons, such as when you are behind an old diesel, and when triggered it closes the vent from the cabin filter to the cabin so you won't smell it.

Okey thank you, and if it sometime smells like burned oil or something from the air vents, thats because of the sensor dont do its work?

Its job is to not let the gases and burned oils in?

By old diesel, do you mean any American-made pickup truck produced as recently as yesterday? Why must they smell so bad? -JT

If all the wires are connected and the sensor is in place and you have tried some contact cleaner and it still gives the error I would try to pick up a new one, or look on Ebay. I did see a few sensors available there.

Buy new American pickup...... Do you just mean Dodge?

The new Chevys and Fords are silent and odorless compared the them.

But I digress.....

Agreed, the new Rams have POS Fiat diesel engines. Fiat Chrysler no longer offers the tried and true Cummins diesel engines. Big mistake. They will go back someday.
