Default AMI retrofit problem

AMI retrofit problem
I have a 2005 audi a8 d3
mmi software is up to date with 4610
I removed the cd changer and installed the Ami
It's in the menu when I push cd/aux
I bought a factory AMI cable
But it has a note saying
"Your device may not be connected out working properly"

A guess:

Guess #1: Which cable exactly. From a dealer? (vs. today's "deal" on EBay, Amazon, etc.) Was it spec'ed at part number level for D3? There are several different cables for either iPod 30 pin or iPod Lightning for example. They have different color plastic bands on the device connector end. Some work for D3. Others (not the same) work for D4. Others (not the same...) work for Q5. Etc. I know from owning those three vehicles, as examples.

Guess #2: Did you try the CD choice instead of the AMI choice? If you pulled the CD to have the AMI connect there, maybe it still wants to use that attachment point. Generically both the CD and the AMI are recognized as drives by MMI.

Not offhand. Search (via Google) might yield answer. AudiUSA parts website says it is this one, and part # is likely on a sticker on cable. https://www.audiusaparts.com/oem-par...Y4LWdhcw%3D%3D You could try calling them if need be and seeing if they will tell you which one the "blue" cable is. Or, look up the part # from when you got it. Also ECS's website has pictures of the "L" part number one: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...le/4f0051510l/ Looks black in that picture, which is sort of what I remember from mine--brother in law now has my D3.

Blue cable is 3G, go to one of my video on AMI cable and measure the resistor pins, it should be 18k instead of 1.8k ohms for 2G

Sorry; not true! Although I'm now using a female USB connector with my 2G AMI in my A8, I still have the original 30pin iPod connector that was used between 2009 and 2017 and it's blue!! Sadly, there's no part number label on it.

But I think these are the part numbers you might want to check out:
4F0 051 510L - 2G Apple 30pin [original iPod]
4F0 051 510AC - 2G Apple 8pin [Lightning]
4F0 051 510Q - 2G USB female [USB sticks]

Well, I'm not talking about aftermarket stuff. My sister's 2015 Q5 and my 2015 eGolf, original equipment both are BLUE. The bottom line is just the resistor 18k (3G) vs 1.8k (2G).
Cheers,
Louis

AMI is a separate add on unit from Audi. If you have it, it's a box next to your CD changer.

Louis

+1. In plain sight, and with a cable connection port on the front.
