Thanks, Brozee! Hope you're enjoying that W12. That has to be an orgasmic experience driving that on a daily basis.

Loving it, only drawback is gas mileage and miles per tanks (360 if I'm lucky). Back on topic though. Good luck

As far as I know there's no way to know what version is installed but updating can't hurt.

Brozee,

What obvious changes happened when you upgraded the SW on your MMI? Anything you can share, maybe screenshots?

Brozee 12-07-2012 05:22 PM

AMI update or MMI? I never updated my AMI and the MMI changes are listed all over these forums

Brozee, do you know if I can update my MMI with a European version software (they're the discs I have) in a Japanese spec Audi A6?

Brozee 07-23-2014 07:16 AM

I definitely wouldn't even try it. With how finicky the systems are I wouldn't. What is your reason for wanting to update your firmware in the first place? This thread refers to the AMI not the MMI for what it's worth.

Its MMI software/firmware update. Reason for update is because the car had a MD changer when I bought it and I recently replaced it with AMI. Problem is that the MMI doesn't recognize the MMI when you go to source of music but when you go to the Hidden Menu, you can see the AMI specs there.

Ah yes, your MMI firmware needs to be updated in order to recognize the AMI unit. I believe either 33.6 or the one revision before that is what enabled use of the MMI. As you don't know much on the topic and the MMI can be very finicky I'd just take it to a dealer and tell them to update the MMI for you. That or order the OEM original 46.1 firmware disc and upgrade it yourself. Connect a trickle charger in the event it takes a while.

If MD changer is CD changer you have a problem. You need CD changer in order to update MMI software. So hook it back, order 4F0 998 961, connect a battery charger and update it yourself. Following Brozee's advice leads to selling a gorgeous car because of high maintenance costs. Be handy or drive Toyota. :)

What version is your MMI software?

As Brozee mentioned, you need the MMI to be running version 3360 (North American version) at a minimum for the AMI to work. This may correspond to European/ROW MMI version 5150 (I asked that question once in the forums, but never got a response). This old post had a nice listing of MMI versions and corresponding update CD part numbers. It may be that you should look for p/n 4L0 998 961 for the latest EU/ROW spec MMI upgrade CDs.

Since you mentioned that you have a Japanese spec car, can you tell us what software version is currently running on your MMI?
