Default Is anyone else out there waiting for an AMI (ipod) unit? I've ordered one through a dealer....

....but they say there's no way to tell how long it might take to come in. The ipod cable has already arrived in stock, but the main AMI unit (known in the system as a "cd changer") was something that they needed to call a parts specialist for and has no real ETA. Anyone else out there waiting to get one installed? Better yet, anyone out there have an inside line on how long these things take to ship out?

Thanks!

I have both the AMI and CD changer installed side-by-side in the glove compartment. I got my AMI controller and cables from Kufatec in Germany and the housing from the Audi dealer in Chicago. It is pretty easy to install yourself, all you need is the Audi tool to pull out the CD changer and a small screw driver

Default The CD changer and AMI both continue to work

If you just have the CD changer, you have no options when you hit the source softkey in the upper right corner. If you have the AMI, it becomes another option in that menu, so you choose there whether the CD button activates the CD changer or the AMI.

It took my dealer about 6 weeks from when I ordered the AMI and its arrival.

Default 6 weeks waiting is doable, but unfortunate. :(

Do you recall whether they told you it would be 6 weeks, or did you get the same unspecified wait time that I've gotten?

Right now I'm just hoping that it's only six weeks and not longer...it's hard to be without my iPod in the car and I really can't stand the little radio tuner option. I had an ICE-link in my last A6, but I'm really looking forward to the fully integrated text on the MMI screen from the Audi AMI kit. It will be a well justified reason to gallop through another $90 tank of gas when it finally comes in.

Thanks for the reply.

It was unspecified and I think I kept checking in. The dealer was never able to promise a delivery date - I just got a call one day that it was in.

Default One more question for you.....

....the dealer mentioned that it might cause me to lose XM radio in the car, which is a fair trade for my iPod, but I really don't see why this would be true. My XM module is in the trunk near the DVD player and not in my glovebox next to the CD changer. I understand that you select the ipod from the CD menu, not AM/FM/Sat, so I'm guessing that I might still manage to keep XM radio and add the ipod.

What was your experience in this regard? Did you lose satellite or anything else with the ipod install?

Thanks again.

It's amazing how little the dealers seem to know about this.

You will not lose satellite radio. I have Sirius and it still works fine. Your assumptions are correct.

I don't use Sirius nearly as much as I used to, but I bought a lifetime subscription so it's still nice to have. I tend to listen to a lot of podcasts now during long trips.

Good luck. It's definitely worth the wait!
