So the most this could be would be like 2000? Maybe I'll offer him 2K under his asking price if it does not get repaired soon. I have a feeling it will get sold like the three others I waited for and lost out on. The other thing is this seller is about 2 hrs. Away from me so I am trying to limit my trips there.

You will see a Red Optical Light come on when you turn the Keys to start the car, but don't start it. Because Audi uses a Ring Pattern instead of a Start Pattern to connect all Infotainment Units it only take 1 Bad Unit to bring the intire MMI System Down.

Don't let any of this Scare you from buying the Car. Just negotiate a Good Deal so that you can pay for the work to be performed by Audi ($3000). After you have negotiated the Deal then come back an Start a Thread on how to Fix MMI 07 Control Head. I will help you get a Brand New Unit for under $400 show you how to Drop the Glove Box and Plug in the New Unit. It will come with the Component Protection removed so you'll just Plug & Play. My money is on the Control Head since it is the same thing that happened to me. This is why I know how to Replace it and if you can remove 4 or 5 Screws the Glove Box Drop Down and there it is.

The Dealership will charge between $80 to $120 and hour, but they may not find the problem unless they start unplugging each Unit which will cost you a good 3 hours of Labor. Take the short road and make the Deal telling the seller how much this is going to cost you ($3000+) and come here with the New Thread. I paid $17,900 Cash & Carry (they wanted $24K) almost 2 years ago, so you should be able to get an A8 for $16,500 minus your Repairs. Look like a sweet deal to me if you can pull it off. Laters,

P.S. Although it's highly unlikely, if it is one of the other Units I can get you those with a 6 Month Warrantee (Used) for a few hundred dollars. So, don't let anything scare you from Stealing A Great Deal if this is the Car you want. Just make sure Service Records are Up To Date or Receipts for Services Performed!

MMI controller, modules, and screens...... I have done about 50 of them... I can do the controllers in my sleep. The hard part is paying for the parts. $$$$$

4ringking, maybe I should hire you if the seller can't fix this car. He told me that it's been at an Audi deals for the past week and it's still not fixd yet. What would be the most you could see this costing me? They're asking 19K for the car with 70K on it, but I don't plan on paying that if the MMI is still broke.

I would've passed on this car ages ago. It should have been fixed prior to being listed for sale.

Yeah I actually did pass on it but came back to it due to not being able to find anything close to this price in an 05 or 04. At least now I know that the MMI is brand new and I shouldn't have any issue with it as long as I own it.

LOVE your A8! I just bought a low mile 2007 A8L with I think every option available and looking forward to going to work on it. But after 3 months the MMI started acting funny. I tired to update the software and from there it bricked. Dealer wants a fortune to fix it so very interested in your previous post. Can you help me swap my MMI out?

Thanks!

Scott

No hardware issue ever got fixed by applying a software update.

Do you have a VCDS?

Dealer connected VCDS and told me, "multiple control units faulty. CD changer, front display control unit, sound system amplifier, radio and telephone control unit." They recommend replace all the units at a cost of $7K.
Everything worked perfectly, then bluetooth began acting up. Searched forums and found others with bluetooth issues had success by updating to version 4610. When I updated, it hung up mid way through and since then nothing works. Searching here and saw Williebone thread about replacing MMI 07 Control Head. Said he can provide with Component Protection disabled... "plug and play"... Sounded like a good place to start.

What do you think?

I'm going to buy my ownVCDS. Any recommendation on what and where to get?

Thanks!!
