Anyone here have experience with wear and tire noise on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S?
I have 2 winter seasons on these, the tread is not bad with even wear and about 5 to 7000 miles life remaining.
However, the noise off the tires is horrendous, a fact confirmed this week when swapping back to the Pirelli PZero's.
Same happened on a set of Dunlops and I see a report on Tire Rack of noise developing as the tires age.
I was hoping the tires might get quiet again but they will probably have turned into racing slicks before that happens!

I had the same expereince with those tires on a BMW 740. My complaints were price, noise, and the width was actually a little narrower than the non-sport pilot. Just not worth the money in my opinion.

I'm using the 19" version (Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 255 40 ZR19 96Y M+S) on my a8 as the summer tires. I use the true Michelin snow tires (17" on cheap aluminum rims) during the winter as I go through some bad weather from time to time.
With 19,000 miles on my A/S tires, I do not notice any excessive noise yet. They are quiet IMO so far. It looks like they will only give a total of 40,000 miles of service which is disappointing for how much they co$t me. I expected 55-60k based on the treadwear number and previous Michelin experience on Audi's for me.

same experience here...
Had them as year-round tire on my allroad - got about 20k miles out of a set. On my A4 I seem to get about 50k miles. Have had a total of 3 sets over both cars. Each time they became very noisy over the last 25% of their life.

Re: I calculate I have about 30k on them. Tread life will get them close to ..
Simular mileage on mine, but I assumed the noise was size of suspension. They are noisy on some roads tho.
Any better tyres for the same wear rate?

Hmmm...crossing those off my A/S list again
I like the PZero Nero M+S (A/S's) on the C5; also quiet (unlike the P6 absolute junk by mid life). Admittedly marginal as an A/S given the closer to summer tread pattern, but it is rated A/S.
It'a also an XL rated tire in the 20's unlike the Michelin. In the 19's I guess one has to go to the Advan S4 or something as an alerternative on the D3 since I don't know that that the PZNero covers that size.
The Pirelli's and Yokohama's can price at like a third less and cover the same sort of wear and temp ratings (I know, not directly comparable across brands for wear...).

YES! I replaced the factory tires @ 30K with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my 2006 A8. My main selection criteria was the little "ridge" that offers some protection to the wheels (which I've now repaired a total of seven times). An aggressive A/S tread, they seemed fine at first. But now, with 8,000 miles, they howl noticeably (and unacceptably). I can't live with it, and am going to have the dealer pull them off next week. Anyone coach me on what would be the quietest tire I could put back on? Thanks...
