OEM New (Continental) is the only way to go if you use the car and plan on keeping it.

That's my plan too.
Assuming only one strut is bad would it be OK if I just change one?

That's how my front ones were done. Seven years between the left and right fronts.

i replaced with Arnott 'new' structs on the front a year or so ago and cannot tell difference from OEM. Also, do NOT purchase CARDONE struts....god awful rebuild struts and their customer service is a joke.

I went the riskier route and purchased a used strut on eBay. Had a warranty attached to it and the eBay buyer protection is pretty good. Read too many stories on here of how horrible Arnott and RMT quality has been. So far at 10 months in, no problems. I'm planning on rebuilding the one that was pulled from the car at some point.

Did you lose the adaptive dampening?
Can you still select the various modes?
I don't think I'll go that route but just curious.

The Arnott new aftermarket struts claim to have a shock with different valving to simulate the active dampening. With that, I can understand why the ride could be close to the OEM design. If you want to see the difference between active dampening and no dampening; pull the cap off of one of the struts and disconnect the electrical connector and drive the car. Horrible ride quality. Don't worry aboot(sic) the indicator lamp. It will go out when you reconnect.

If you replace the OEM with an Arnott strut, 3 out of the 4 will still work as normal, but if you pay attention, the Arnott corner won't respond to bumps or maneuvering like the rest. It can't.

Default D3 struts

I currently have a new front set of RMT struts. Sold the car before being able to put them on. If interested. Let me know.
