And,yes, this may be the only illuminated A8 sills in the US. If another forum member has them I hope they will chime in...I'd like to hear the story.
There goes my Creative Mind again! I just may have to buy a Set of Used Door Seal Plates and have a Looky See! Sometimes I hate it when the Alternative Freeway becomes my Exit. It just might be a Worth While Winter Project to tackle and Write about. In the mean time I have too many Projects to Complete including the Bose Write Up so I have to learn how to Stay On Track for Now (AADD & OCD)!lol Congrats & laters,

The Dc to AC invertors make quite a bit of electrical noise. Just curious, when you open a door if you have the AM radio on, do you notice any noise or popping sounds?

I know, I know..... who listes to AM radio these days? I hardly do but every so often.... And yes, the doors are usually opened with the engine (and radio) off.

At the G2E show (Global Gaming Expo) going on in Las Vegas, there is always a vendor with EL ribbon panels that are used in casino signage. All different colors too.

EL inverters do not all operate at the same frequency, a lot of them operate in the 1800-2000Hz range. Inverters appropriate for the square inches of EL panel involved here operate in the 400-600Hz range and I think the sound changes with the Hz involved. The inverters I installed make a slight hum that I could hear when I was on my knees doing the install with my head about 12 inches from the device but ,after tucking the inverters out of the way above the footwells, they can not be heard.

As to AM interference, I just went out to the car and tuned to an AM station, then openened the door to trigger the sill...no intrerference.

Default Audi illuminated door sills project completed

Audi illuminated door sills project completedQuite awhile back I posted that I had bought a couple sets of illuminated door sills (normal wheelbase version) from Audi's Quattro GmbH German catalog. I have had them installed for sometime now, but only now got them functioning. With my point-and-shoot I was not able to take photos that have the various light sources balanced properly, but I have posted them anyway.

The problem I had was that Audi WAY over engineered these things. The instructions for installing them are 30 pages long !!

I manage to find these full set new.Would it bebissible you still have install manual to share

There is no reason to do the install according to the manual as to the electrical part of things. The Audi method was WAY WAY more work than needed. I did one side their way....it was crazy, up under the dash, tying in to the CAN BUS system, etc etc.

All you need is to ty into the footwell lights because they come on when the door is open. I dont think you would even need to drill into the body under the sill area like Audi says to....I did so when I still thought I needed to follow instructions, but I think the wires could just have the sills sitting on top and come up and out of the kick panel to the foot well fixtures. These days I drive a W12, so I am making some illuminated sills with "W12" and that will be how I wire them into the car.

And remember: with EL technology you never want to energize the transformer without an EL strip connected or you will ruin the transformer.
