Audi should mount their Bluetooth phone like this!
And if they still put it under the armrest once they put them in the D3's, then I'll make a kit to extend the wiring so it can be put in like this!

I (actually Brian and myself) finished installing his Bluetooth phone in his car. We added the antenna connection to his cradle, mounted the cradle he got off ebay, and fixed the non muting OnStar problem (which is a story in itself).
I have to say, I absolutely LOVE the look of this, anybody who wants to have a hands free phone in the D3 should get the console mounting piece, it looks just awesome.
Brian had 0 to 1 bars of signal strength when the phone wasn't in the cradle and 3 to 4 bars with it in the cradle. An external antenna makes a HUGE difference.

After we got all done, which included going back into the Telematics box to add the mute wire back to the 42 pin connector so it would mute when using OnStar.....we tried testing OnStar.
It now muted the radio (which it didn't before because the mute was removed during the first go around), but OnStar voice "connecting to OnStar" or whatever it is, did not come on....what the heck did I do????
So I ended up calling OnStar like the Bently manual states via our cell phone, and they were going to call us. We never got the call. But then they called us back on our cell phone to tell us that they could hear us, but we couldn't hear them.
I was already back into the Telematics box at this time and figured it was a bad connection, when Brian asked the OnStar lady on the phone "how do you turn up the volume?", Paul, turn up the volume on the steering wheel (we knew that's how to do it, just didn't try it)....then all of a sudden it worked!!!
Joke's on us.....we had the volume all the way down, so we couldn't hear anything!!! Oh well.....
I will create a page on audipages for anybody who is interested in me doing the install or buying a kit with detailed instructions from me.

One word of caution
When you do put it in the back seat and you have a 1900' driveway that you want to set up for autocrossing....you will turn the closest nuclear power plant blue.....
But it's your call!

I now have used the phone for the past couple of hours. Everything is working perfectly. Paul is awesome. One day maybe we will learn how to use the volume.

Should I mention that my back is killing me?
How many times did I get up and down this morning, I feel like I just re roofed the garage!
But now I'm working outside on the patio and it's about 70F out! Very nice....

I like the console-coloured pad to fix the cradle to
It appears to be a very good match for the interior colour and texture-wise.
Nice install work Paul, I am awed at your enthusiasm and talent for this.
The Audi cradles will most likely end up in or (more likely I think) under the armrest, I thikn you have to have the deluxe armrest to have the phone preparation option because the cradle goes under it.
Not that there's an issue with visibility, it should all be MMI-integrated and it should work with voice command.

It's deffinatly a nice looking option.
Got me considering options now. I like the look. Where did you get the mounting pad from?
I might also be intrested in one of your Blue tooth Sony HCB-30 car kits. Starting to reconsider hacking an exsiting bluetooth adapter I got my hands on. It a PITA.
