Back in the shop again
Well the saga continues..The 8 is back in the shop again. They're chasing the check engine light. Codes show a lean condition. The made sure the airbox was sealed. Replace a dirty air filter (Shouldn't show lean condition) Replace the Air Mass Meter...fault keeps coming back. Next step will probably be the 02 sensor. Warranty covered the Air Mass Meter, but I have to sign off on the diagnostic(possibly 2-3 hours) to continue the hunt. If they find a failed part, then the warranty will cover it. If not...out my pocket. Any ideas on lean condition?

Unmetered air downstram of MAF sensor
Could mean a leaking intake manifold gasket (you already have that suggestion below), maybe a bad o-ring on an injector (don't know if that will cause it), or anything on the air intake piping downstream of MAF.
I HIGHLY doubt changing an O2 sensor will do anything.
What is the specific code? I can look it up.

Paul is on the right track here...
There are a variety of things from the MAF to the cylinder where the a vaccum leak can be, which then leads right to a lean code if it is at all material--as mentioned, intake gaskets, various vacuum hose take offs and the like, in addition to any outright broken, cracked or deformed parts.

So, sounds like you are worried about 4/50 warranty coverage, but also look at...
emissions warranty. If it's a CA emissions level car and your state works like CA, there may be additional coverage there. In CA if the check engine light is on, that's an automatic failure of an emissions test. I'm guessing it's the same in other states too. In CA that then often kicks in the emissions warranty and forces a fix. As I recall, I think you have to jump through the hoop of also actually failing an emission test, not just having the light on that is the "well, duh" precursor. On the other hand, there are some things it doesn't cover--based on what technology was common and what wasn't some time ago.
In any case, it's worth a read. My experience is dealers don't typically talk about this, but know that it's there and have to honor it. Read the warranty applicable to your state so you know what is covered and for how long.
