Big Week for the A8L

My 06 A8L had a big week last week.

-Metallic brake pads F&R done Tuesday
-55K and 65K service done Thursday
-Front control arm bushings and wheel bearings replaced Friday

-Mounted 275/35-20 Pilot Sport A/S rubber from Tire Rack to 20" Hartmann HS5s from CovertW12.

Covert W12 really helped a lot; beyond extensive technical support and getting me his wheels very quickly (and safely) at a great price he pointed me to the Pilots on Tire Rack (on clearance). I was surprised at how much of a difference the control arm bushings made and am happy to have gone up from 255 to 275 rubber. Also glad I did 35 series instead of 30 and have preserved the sidewall height.

There are more pics in my picture poster, but the lighting is poor. I will get some better ones up as time allows.

My 19" Turbines will be looking for a home soon.

Looks nice.

Did you replace the control arm bushing with another OEM bushing, or are polyurethane replacements available?

I went OEM as it was covered by Audi. The same thought occurred to me, but the dealer was able to replace them within a few hours of diagnosing the issue at no charge so I figured I wouldn't complicate things.

Were the wheel bearings bad with only about 65,000 miles????

Yes, in fact they were bad at <50K. They have been audibly clicking at slow speeds on turns since then but have gotten progressively worse and had been noticeably and annoyingly clicking even without turning at speeds anything <15MPH daily for the past 10K miles. And that means many clicks for every full rotation of the wheel, not just sporadically.
