The airport security operation has been spewing money like a fire hose. Transportation Security Agency records show almost $200-thousand spent for hotel rooms and travel for more than 500 employees, for one banquet.
One person got a Lifetime Achievement Award for being there two years.
Bigwigs got bonuses averaging $16-thousand. Lower-down employees got what you'd expect: something just north of diddley squat.
The company that planned the (November 2003) awards ceremony was paid roughly $180-thousand for services, photos, plaques and signs. Your tax money at work.
An Associated Press report said, "TSA spokeswoman Amy von Walter said the agency believes the bonuses and party were justified "given the hours and productivity of the work force during this critical period."
One thing never changes, does it: government jerks remain jerks, nobody does anything about it, and your tax money is frittered away.
Meanwhile, we've got people out here struggling to buy enough gasoline to drive to work.
