Brake pad indicator
This is a stupid question that I should be able to find the answer to quickly if I had time to search the forum but can anyone confirm that the check brake pad indicator only refers to the front brake pads not the rear.
I asked this question because my latest diagnostic scan under the parking brake electronics stated I had thin brake pads fault in the rear. I reset the values as they were not reset when the previous owner change the pads but cannot get the light to go away. There is nothing in the diagnostics indicating an issue with the front brake pads but maybe it will not show in a scan!
Thanks in advance for your help

I only see the brake pad warning light on when my front was low, not the rear. My rears were almost to the metal but it never warned me at all. There's no sensor cable in the rear, it must all be "E".
I do have error on my eBrake scan but no warning light.
Cheers,
Louis

The rear pad worn light is based on measurements of the pad thickness when originally installed. If the pad thickness was set wrong by the installer, then you will not get a warning. Go through the video posted by ross tech on how to change rear pads without f****ing it up. Heed the warnings so you don't end up with a blown rear brake controller.

So just to clarify, can the rears actually trigger the brake pad indicator on the car?
My brake pad indicator light came on about 100 miles ago and I had assumed the fronts were the priority to be replaced so did that this past weekend. The indicator did not reset so I am now wondering if the rears are keeping the light on.
This is 100% curiosity at this point since I have the brakes/rotors to do the rear, I just didn't get around to it at the same time.

Yes, rears read the wear based on the parking brake motor. There is no separate sensor for it on D3, yet they are monitored. Part of doing a rear brake job on a D3 is resetting the monitored field for the new pad thickness. They gave up on that with D4 and went back to a sensor.
