Default Brake Pad Warning Light Reset

I replaced front and rear brake pads in Audi A8 2004. The sensors are built in to the pads. I can't get the brake pad warning light to come off. Does anyone know how to do this?

IIRC, when I replaced my front pads, the light went out without using the diagnostic software to reset anything. My rear pads never caused an indication to be displayed. I replaced them after inspecting them and found them to be quite thin. I did use the software to retract the parking and measure & enter the new pad thickness. You did use the software for the rear pad replacement procedure, correct? If not and you forced the piston back into the rear calipers, all bets are off. That said, others here had parking brake malfunction warnings and others had no problem.

"Ditto" on MB's reply! You can not do the Rear Brakes w/out VCDS/Vag.

Steps are as Follows:

1) Plug in VCDS
2) Turn Ignition Key to Accessory (Dash Lights Up)
3) Start VCDS
4) Activate Parking Brake (On)
5) Deactivate Parking Brake (Off)
6) Go to Parking Brake Module (VCDS)
7) Go to Adaptation and Select Open Brake Motor (Drop Down Menue)
8) Select Close Brake Motor (Drop Down Menue)
9) Exit Module (Back to Main VCDS Menue)
10) Turn Key off for 5 seconds
11) Turn Key On
12) Go back to Parking Brake Adaptation and select Pad Thickness
13) Enter your Thickness or just Enter 10 if you like
14) Hit Test then Save
15) Exit Module back to VCDS Main Menue
16) Turn Key off for 5 Seconds
17) Turn Key on
18) Go Back to Parking Brake Module and select Fault Codes and Clear it!
19) End

I know some of these steps could be elliminated, but better safe than sorry. Hope this helps and good luck. Laters,

His issue is with getting rid of the front brake pad warning lights. The rear brake pads have no sensors and are therefore irrelevant to this topic. His issue is with getting rid of the warning light after replacing the front pads. I am coming up to this as my front pads get thinner and thinner. I believe they just reset when you put in new ones, possibly you may need a MMI scan refresh or something?

should reset by itself with the new pads, check your connectors at the pads, aftermarket pads are notorious for having crappy pin connectors and even unplugging themselves.

Good advice - sometimes there is some corrosion on the contacts on the 'car side' of the connector - spray some contact cleaner/WD40 in the socket then plug and un-plug it a few times, then check to see if taht has corrected it. There is no 'reset procedure', as such, it is a simple circuit completed through the wear sensor wire.

Thank you all for your advice! I will do the steps with VCDS to see if the warning lights will clear.

DEALERS DO SINCE THAT IS WHERE THE PROPER PADS SHOULD BE PURCHASED FROM. OTHERWISE, ANY WEBSITE THAT SELLS THEM WILL GIVE THE PART NUMBER ONCE YOU ENTER MODEL & YEAR.

So is there any special way to change the front brake pads or is it just a typical change like any other car?
