Brand new A8 drives "darty."
I hope someone has some words of wisdom, and if so, I'll be SO APPRECIATIVE. I have a brand new Audi A8. While I love the car overall, I hate the way it drives. The wheels drive the steering, and not vice-versa. The car does not track straight, and I have to constantly make small corrections to keep the car in the middle of the road. It is not a relaxing drive. I have called the salesperson who has checked with service at the dealer, and I am told that it is the big wheels that are the problem. I personally have a hard time believing this. The car has 20" wheels and came with Pirelli 265/40 R20 "all season tires." As I see it, it is either the tires or the wheels or a manufacturing defect in the car itself. I can't see myself driving this for 5 years. However trading it in is a tough option to consider. Does anyone have any experience, or any ideas? I'd be so grateful, and thanks so much, John

By "brand new" do you mean 2015-2016? If so you are in the wrong area as this is for the D3 A8 2003-2010.
If it's just new to you then I would recommend an alignment. My car is only "darty" on bad roads. Every car I've ever driven with wide tires can get that way on bad roads.

Brand new like... 2015-2016? If so, this forum is for the older generation of 2004-2011.
Either way, this isn't an issue with the design of the car, and should be able to be resolved pretty simply.
1.) Have your alignment checked
2.) That tire size isn't right for the older A8's at least. Not sure on the newer models, but the stock size for 20's should be 275/35/20. Your 265/40 is a lot of sidewall, and I hate Pirelli's in general.
3.) If your A8 is not in fact "brand new", have a mechanic inspect your control bushings for any excess play.
Welcome to the forum by the way!

Cars with larger tires can tend to follow grooves in the road. I've not experienced this much in mine, however. If you are having problems with the car tracking, it's not normal, something is up.

I really appreciate the input, but as I responded earlier, it is a 2015 TDI brand new.

The salesman is wrong. The car should track. Take it back and explain the problem to the service guy. If he gives you any grief, call Audi. Sounds like an alignment issue to me.
